Tonkotsu King Ramen Keisuke

Shortly after the completion of the Orchid Hotel (near Tanjong Pagar MRT), we started seeing a queue forming almost perpetually at a corner of the ground floor shops. Thou I was tempted by curiousity to check out what’s the big deal about the place, I only manage to visit them recently. And now I understand why there’s a long queue…the tiny shop has only 7 tables! Even at 9.30pm at night, we had to queue for about 10 mins to get in. Its definitely not a place to go for large group of friends as you can’t stay there to chit-chat after your meal.

Tonkotsu King serves their ramen in 3 versions: Tonkotsu Ramen, Black Spicy Tonkotsu Ramen and Red Spicy Tonkotsu Ramen. They allow customers to customise the taste of the soup, chicken oil, noodle texture, ingredients. After submitting the order chit to the staff, diners can munch on the seasoned beansprout and boiled eggs provided FOC while waiting for their ramen =) I really luv the beansprout, crunchy yet juicy~

The noodles used are typical of  Hakata ramen, which is thin and straight. The standard ramen comes with char shu, black fungus and spring onion as ingredients. I added a flavoured egg to go with my ramen. The soup was flavoursome with pieces of lard floating atop! You can add soup at additional $2 per serving.

If you order the Ramen Special (with All Toppings), you’ll get a large piece of Japanese Seaweed, extra large char shu and flavoured egg.

Nice place for me to go have supper since they are opened till 10.30pm~

[Updates on 20th May 2012]

Tried their Black Spicy Ramen. The base soup is the same as the normal ramen but they added the black pepper gravy as a variant. Its not very spicy and has a tinge of black pepper. I still prefer the original thou…
