Haven’t been to Marina Square for sometime. Recalled that I recently read of a new eatery – The Tastings Room, that offers suggestions on wines to pair with the food in their menu, so I gave them a try.
The wine at tastings room can be ordered in 2 quantities – either in tasting portion or full serving portion. Having the option of tasting portion allows customers to try out more variety of wines. For us, we paired our steak with a full glass of Vasse Felix Cabernet Sauvigon 2008 (Magaret River) and another glass of Viking Grand Shiraz 2004 (Barossa Valley), both from Australia.
Here’s what we ordered: Puree of Mushroom Soup, Pan Seared Scallops, Garlic Prawn in Casserole, Beef Ribeye Steak and Vanilla Creme Brulee.
The Puree of Mushroom Soup was rich and thick, while the Pan Seared Scallops was a disappointment as it doesn’t tasted like it has been seared – tasted like its just boiled. The Garlic Prawn in Casserole was pretty decent, garlic lovers would like the crunchy garlic. Steak was also quite normal. The creme brulee looks pretty and tasted quite nice.
Food wise is rather normal. Wine range and the option to order tasting portion will probably attract wine novice to give them a try. But its an illusion tt ordering tasting portion will cost less as the bill will still add up to be quite substantial.
