Zafferano is a relatively new Italian restaurant but their excellent location gave them an edge over others. Situated at level 43 of the newly retrofitted Ocean Financial Centre, it has great view of MBS, Singapore Flyer etc. The decor was hip and trendy, not your traditional Italian restaurant. There is even a resident DJ at the alfresco terrace area.

This is the 2nd restaurant deal which I managed to secure during extremely difficult to book – Restaurant Week. I was able to book them cos it was a 9pm seating.

An express lift takes us up to level 43 – with slight discomfort in the ear pressure… but once up there, I was impressed with the overall decor and ambience. Walking down the main corridor, we passed by the wine lounge on the left (equipped with Enomatic Wine Machines storing Italian wines available by glass), open-concept kitchen on the right. Upon reaching the main dining hall, the bar with artistic light feature will undoubtly capture one’s attention.

Here’s what we had for $55++ set menu for Restaurant Week:

  • Amuse Bouche Crabmeat Panzanella

——— (2 options availabile, so we each tried different dish) ——

  • Burrata Burrata Cheese, Cherry Tomatoes & Basil – The burrata cheese does not taste like the typical cheese, it has a buttery and milky taste. It goes well with the tomatoes.
  • Fegato grasso Goose Liver Terrine, Figs, Pistachio & Vin Santo, toasted Brioche – The sweet tasting figs, pistachio & vin santo was a good match with the goose liver.

——— (2 options availabile, so we each tried different dish) ——

  • Uovo Parmesan Cream, poached Organic Egg, Green Asparagus & Summer Black Truffle – A simple but well executed dish.
  • Tortelli Pecorino Cheese ‘Tortelli’, with onion, ‘Guanciale’ Bacon & Tomato sauce – The cheese filled tortelli, interestingly looked like wanton, and it goes well with the tomato sauce.

——— (2 options availabile, so we each tried different dish) ——

  • Guancia Slow cooked Wagyu Beef Cheek in Chianti Red Wine sauce, Jerusalem Artichoke & Black Truffle – The beef cheek was not as soft as I expected, but I liked the Chianti red wine sauce.
  • Cacciucco Tuscan Stew of Sea Bass, Prawns, Scallops, Mussels, Clam & Tomatoes – This was my favourite dish of the night. The seafood were fresh and more importantly the tuscan stew broth was light and tasty.

—— Dessert ———

  • Dolci Assortiti Selection of desserts – The assorted desserts comprises of Strawberry tart, mini tiramisu, chocolate cigar, vanilla ice cream and panna cotta. A good balance between chocolate and citrus desserts.

With nice food and ambience, Zafferano is a place which I will likely to return to chill out at their terrace and try out their variety of Italian wines.
