Caveau Wines and Bar

Caveau Wines and Bar by the Les Amis Group is a coffee bar by day and a wine lounge by night. Obviously I was there in the evening =P

They also invested in the latest “toy” in the wine bar scene – Enomatic Machines, allowing diners to order wines by glass yet keeping the opened bottles of wine fresh. They had installed 2 machines, each storing 8 bottles of wines. Similar to most other wine bars, they offer tasting portions, half glass, full glass options.

What I liked about Caveau is that their bar snacks are provided by the sister restaurant Annam (Vietnamese) and Bistro du Vin (French), so one can be assured that the good wines have good food companions too!

We ordered the Thai Seaweed Crackers (to munch as snacks), Grilled prawn sugarcanes from Annam and Char-grilled tenderloin & button mushroom, Bearnaise sauce from Bistro du Vin.

The seaweed crackers was not listed in the menu but was written on the chalk board. Glad I didn’t miss. It was very crispy and nice!

I also enjoyed the grilled prawn sugercanes which had a sweet & sour dip sauce. The prawn paste was juicy and succulent. The tenderloin was a great snack to go with the wines too.

The wine by glass ranged from $12-32 per glass, many of which are French wines.  We tried some whites & some reds:

  • 2011 Egon Muller, Scharzhof Riesling Qba – Mosel, Germany
  • 2010 Chateau Fuisse, Pouilly Fuisse Tete de Cru – Burgudy, France
  • 2009 Chateau Toulifaut, Pomerol [ex-Chateau]- Bordeaux, France
  • 2009 Thibault Liger Belair, Nuits-Saint-George les Charmottes – Burgundy, France
  • 2010 Anne Gros et Jean Paul Tollot, Minervois Les Fontanilles – Languedoc Roussillon, France
  • 2008 Segla, by Rauzan Segla – Margaux, France

Most drinking establishments at Orchard area are those in hotel lounges, Caveau offers good value and a less formal setting to mingle around with friends.

With good food and good range of wines at Caveau, its one of my favourite wine bars around.

[Updates on 19th Dec 13]

No more Vietnamese cuisines on the menu as Annam was closed. But we found Jamon here nice to go with the wines =)
