Rockpool, Koh Samui

Rockpool is located within Karma Samui Resort, it can be quite out-of-the-way to get there. Its neither at the more popular Chaweng/Lamai/Bo Phut area. Thou the address still indicate Bo Phut, it still took us abt 15 mins taxi ride to get there…

We were momentarily happy when we happen to saw on the flight magazine to Koh Samui that Rockpool provides free pick-up from your hotel… (we made reservations prior to leaving Singapore). But upon sending email to inform them to pick us up, they replied that the pickup service is not available on festive season…

What lured us to visit Rockpool was their Oyster Sunday Brunch at 1,250baht (S$50) per pax. And I also read somewhere that one can top-up to include free flow of Champagne, which turns out to be another inaccurate info! So to sum up *no free pick up *no top-up option of drinks… =( We end up paying for a bottle of white wine (Deakin Viognier) that cost ard S$70 – how can one eat oysters w/o white wine?

The saving point was the awesome seaside view of the open air restaurant. There was also a solo guitarist playing Xmas tunes for the special occassion.

The food spread consist of

  • Cold Dishes: Salad, Appetisers, Sashimi, Sushi, Oysters, Mussels, Scallop Ceviche – Best Station for the entire buffet. Oysters were reasonably fresh (for the price we paid).
  • Cooked food: Laksa, Herbal Duck Soup, Roast Turkey, Beef Steaks with sides, etc – Tried the Laksa which taste like curry noodles, Herbal Duck Soup was slightly too salty but good effort. Steak was made-to-order hence was quite nicely done. Was too full to try the Turkey.
  • Desserts: Cakes, Puddings, Panna Cotta etc. – Sadly, the desserts didn’t bring out the exciting squeals in me…

We spent a good 3 hours enjoying our brunch and taking in the views at the restaurant. Great ambience, splendid views and value-for-money brunch. The only downside was its out-of-the-way…
