May May Singapore

The opening of May May Singapore was much welcomed by me as finally there is a place around Tanjong Pagar area that offers Set Lunch menu even on Saturdays. Best of all, the set lunch is available from Mon-Sat till 3pm, perfect for those who need to go for late lunch. During lunch they offer rice bowls and noodles while they have a different menu for dinner.

For lunch combo, with every order of the Rice bowl or Noodle you can opt for top-up of $3 to get a Green Salad and a Drink. Tried their Braised Pork Belly wasabi sprouts, asian slaw, oven roasted tomatoes, grilled mushrooms, pickled lotus root, soft centred egg and Cold Somen grilled prawns, garlic sriracha, tobiko, crispy seaweed.

While the rice bowls have been featured more often, what impressed me was the Cold Somen. It could be a tad too spicy for some, but the spiciness level was quite shiok for me. It was a good mix of different textures mixed in the dish, with the refreshing cold somen tossed in generous pile of chopped scallions, chewy prawns, popping tobiko, crispy seaweed and al-dente somen.

After the meal we still had space for some dessert, so we ordered the Liu Sha Custard Donut salted egg yolk, custard. The outer layer was fried, dusted with sugar coating and filled with flowy salted egg. This is indeed something innovative and different from the usual steamed liu sha bun that we usually see in dim sum places.
