Tendon Ginza Itsuki

Tendon Ginza Itsuki opened with much fanfare. Snaking queues can be seen at the side of the eatery occupying the corner shophouse unit along Tanjong Pagar.  I only took noticed of the place when we spotted the unusual queue forming.

While there was much online buzz about this new eatery opened by the Keisuke chain (think Ramen/Gyoza and now Tendon), I waited till the excitement died down before heading over to try their 2-item menu: choice of Vegetarian or Special. The pocket friendly pricing could be one key factor on why they attracted so much attention.

For $13.90++ you could enjoy a bowl of Japanese imported rice topped with generous portion of Prawns, chicken fillets and mix of vegetables tempura. Not tempting enough? The set comes with a small chawamushi and a miso soup as well as free flow of pickled side dish.

All the items were freshly fried, hence they were all crispy and warm. Drizzled over them is a sweet sauce which gives additional flavours to the simple dish. While I tucked into my meal, I soon realised that there’s a surprise inside. Hidden under the pile of seafood was a lightly fried but still flowy egg! Yum.

While I was fortunate to take a table seat (which meant that we were further away from the frying stoves), I still left the place with a coat of oily scent on my clothes and hair…

So be warned…don’t visit them if you have other engagements thereafter…

[Update in Apr 2016]

In my recent visit, noticed that they placed some fabric refresher at the cashier to help customers eliminate some of the oil smell.
