The Goodwood Park Hotel Durian Feista 2016 is back (4th Mar to 17 Jul) and they introduced new durian creations.
What I liked about this year’s offering is the limited edition Durian Combo box (valid from 4th to 31st Mar). It includes 1 sampler slice of D24 Durian Mousse Cake, Durian Kueh Lapis, Durian Sea Salt Caramel Cake, 2 pieces of Durian Puffs, 1 piece of Durian Crunchy Chocolate-Hazelnut Tartlet.
This is the first time I tried the D24 Durian Mousse Cake and I’m kicking myself for not buying this last year! Last year I was lured by the colourful Durian Rainbow Ice Cream Cake but didn’t try the mousse cake. I now prefer the mousse cake than the ice cream cake as I could taste more of the pulp in the mousse cake.
The other much raved-about star item was the Durian Black Sea Salt Caramel Cake. However like the ice cream cake, the durian taste wasn’t that intense although the overall durian and savoury flavours was pretty well-balanced.
Durian Crunchy Chocolate-Hazelnut Tartlet was good too but somehow felt kinda ex cos it’s about $7 per piece (6 in a pack).
The most disappointing item was perhaps the Durian Kueh Lapis. I was expecting durian to be layered between the sponge cakes. Instead only the exterior was covering with kueh lapis, with durian mousse in the centre. So it looks like a kueh lapis only from the outside…
Nonetheless its good that Goodwood introduced the Combo box, allowing us to sample a variety of the items. I will probably be back to purchase the D24 Mousse Cake when I have the chance…while waiting for the premium “Mao Shan Wang” Mousse Cake which will be available only from 28 May to 17 July 16, only in 500g size.
