Henri Charpentier, Singapore

Happy to have 1 more pastry shop option around Tanjong Pagar with the addition of Henri Charpentier flagship store. Despite its rather French sounding name, this is actually a Japanese confectionery from Kobe, Japan.

I decided to try a few classic pastries which could make it easy to compare their quality versus other confectioneries. From the array of pastry, I picked the Mont Blanc, Mille Crepe and the Double Cheese Cake. First up, the mont blanc was not as moist as I expected. The crepes were not as thin and soft as the famous M store. And sadly the double cheese cake was not as smooth and rich as the L store hailing from Hokkaido. =(

Nonetheless I gave them another chance and bought their Strawberry Shortcake and Souffle Cheese Cake on another occasion. The sponge cake and cheesecake were pretty decent, although admittedly they fell short of my expectations given their premium branding.

Not sure if I should dine at the cafe to try out their supposed signature Crepe Suzette and their rather pricey Financiers….
