Nespresso Limited Edition Capsules – Tribute to Trieste and Milano

If my memory did not fail me, I believe Tribute to Milano appeared previously (post) so its making a re-appearance along with a new partner city of Trieste

I somehow missed out on taking photos of how the capsules looked. So the picture below is from the Nespresso mailer alert which I received for reference on the design of the actual capsules.

Tribute to Trieste is characterised by a round texture with chocolate and fresh hazelnut notes. Same as Tribute to Milano, it stands at intensity level of 9.

Seems like most of the Italian-inspired capsules suits my taste!

Nespresso Limited Edition Capsules – Long Black Over Ice and the indulgent Flat White Over Ice

While Australia‘s seasons are at opposite times to those in the northern hemisphere, it seems ironic for Nespresso to introduce Long Black Over Ice and the indulgent Flat White Over Ice (Iced Coffee Capsules) in June where its supposedly winter season down under. Luckily in sunny Singapore, this is not an issue for our year-round summer weather. Most of us would welcome a cup of ice cold coffee in our hot and humid climate.

The two iced recipes are inspired by the Australian summer with the long black ideal for the kopi-O drinker and flat white for drinkers who like their coffee rich and creamy.

No indication of the intensity of the capsules on the sleeves, but this iced coffee series is better than the previous editions. So it is commendable that Nespresso is improving their formula for ice coffees since 2017/2018.

Nespresso Limited Edition Capsules – Cafe Istanbul and Caffe Venezia

Bought these capsules in Norway during my trip. Café İstanbul – a deep roasted flavour capsule with intensity level of 10 was inspired by the rich atmosphere of Istanbul in the 1500s. The purplish blue hue of the capsule was very eye-catching. Flavour wise, this capsule would suit the taste buds of black coffee lover!

Taste wise, I preferred the Caffe Venezia instead which had intensity of 8. The capsule was inspired by
the vibrant atmosphere of Venice in the 1700s. Although both had low acidity, I felt the Caffe Venezia was slightly more balanced and soother on my palate.

P.S Was happy that Caffee Venezia was inducted into the permanent capsule range and is now known as Ispirazione Venezia.

Nespresso Limited Edition Variations Capsules~ 2018

This festive variations was one of the most disappointing ones over the years although two of the variations were using the same base of Livanto.

Paris Black was the only one with intensity 9 while the other variations were of intensity 6.

Paris Macaron has a sweet almond flavour while the Paris Praline comes with roasted hazelnut flavour with a touch of caramel sweetness.

I guess I did not enjoy this variations as much as they were to “sweet” and I would prefer more aromatic deep profiles.

Nespresso Limited Edition Capsules – EXPLORATIONS 2018

EXPLORATIONS 2018 must be the most expensive capsule series I’ve bought from Nespresso.

The package priced at S$98 comes with a pair of tasting cups along with 4 sleeves of limited edition capsules.

There wasn’t any indication of the intensity levels printed on the sleeves. But a profile sheet was available.

My least favoured capsule amongst them was the India Mylemoney. The deep toasted flavour left a trail of bitterness on the palate.

Nicaragua Las Marias had sweet and mellow profile. Easy drinking.

Republica Dominicana Valle Del Cibao rated high in acidity, presents a smooth and dry but light body profile. A good all-rounder but lacking in character.

Galapagos Santa Cruz is my favourite for its gentle roastiness that lingers on the palate.

Nespresso Limited Edition Capsules – Ispirazione Salentina and Shakerato

The Nespresso capsules designed to be drank as Iced Coffee is here again!  This year the series is inspired by the Italian summer heat as they introduced the Ispirazione Salentina and Shakerato.

My personal preference was the full-bodied Shakerato with dark cocoa tasting notes which was the richer one between the two. There was no indication of the level of intensity on the sleeves. But there was suggested preparation to serve the drinks as Caffè alla Salentina with a drop of almond milk with cane sugar syrup and Caffè Shakerato with a hint of sugar served after shaken in a shaker.

Nespresso Limited Edition Capsules – Arabica Ethiopia Harrar and Robusta Uganda

Picked up the limited edition capsules – Arabica Ethiopia Harrar and Robusta Uganda in Italy during my trip as it was newly launched. The Nespresso shop was surprisingly packed with people – I said surprising cos I had the impression that perhaps most Italians like their espresso made from freshly grind coffee instead of from capsules? No offence to Nespresso. But judging from the brisk sales, they seems to be doing well in this coffee-loving nation.

I mentioned packed – as in people had to take a queue ticket number and wait for their turn to be served! Our wait was approximately 15 minutes. Based on my visits to many other Nespresso shops in Europe, this is a rarity. Even in Singapore, I hardly need to queue to make my purchase.

Unfortunately the packed store meant that there wasn’t free coffee tasting available to keep us occupied while waiting for our turn.

I think Nespresso has put in a lot of effort in designing the sleeve packaging for the limited edition capsules recently. I loved the aztec inspired prints for EXPLORATION series and this time round the prints were equally attractive. The sleeves for this pair of capsules is designed by London-based illustrator Mariana Rodrigues.

From the gold printed brand name to the tropical themed artwork, the sleeves of capsules is definitely a standout when placed alongside with their usual black-coloured sleeve of the Grand Crus range.

Robusta Uganda (intensity 10) has a strong nutty flavour with a light caramel taste while the Arabica Ethiopia Harrar (intensity 5) is light and fruity.

Nespresso Limited Edition Capsules – EXPLORATIONS 2

Barely 2 months after the introduction of BARISTA, Nespresso introduced EXPLORATIONS 2. An extension of their earlier EXPLORATIONS 1 series featuring singular origins and scarce coffees from around the globe.

Taste aside, the bright and colourful Aztec-inspired graphics of the EXPLORATIONS series is already an eye-candy. I still had the sleeves from the earlier series and they looked wonderful together!

EXPLORATIONS 2 brought us beans from Ethiopia and Columbia. The Yirgacheffe coffee being one with more floral notes while the Aguadas coffee being one with fruity and acidity notes.

Nespresso Limited Edition Capsules – BARISTA

This year is a bumper year for Nespresso Limited Edition Capsules with yet another new series being introduced. This time round named BARISTA comprised of 3 capsules with varying levels of intensity: Level 5, 8 and 11.

The three capsules aims to allow consumers to create their preferred style of coffee, either Cappuccinos, Macchiatos and Ristrettos, at home or in the office.

All three has relatively deep flavours, the trio would be a great set to keep on hand especially if there are guests visiting. There would be a capsule with intensity level suited for everyone (unless they wanted decaf).

This series suits me perfectly as they don’t carry any floral or fruity notes.  With another 3 months to the end of the year, I wonder if they would push out another limited edition series before their usual year-end edition.  For now I’m satisfied with a well-stocked pantry at home with capsules that could last for for quite a long time.

Nespresso Limited Edition Capsules – EXPLORATIONS 1

It has only been 1 month since Nespresso last introduced their latest limited edition capsules for the summer and they have another new series up for grasp – EXPLORATIONS 1.

The Explorations 1 set comprised of two sleeves of capsules – Laos Bolaven Plateau and Kenya Peaberry. Underneath the rather plain looking black box cover sleeve was 2 rows of colourful Aztec-inspired patterns. They were really eye-catching and a nice surprise.

The intensity of both capsules were not indicated. Both are Arabica beans with one grown in Southern Laos (in Asia) and another grown in Kenya (east Africa).

Taste wise, this pair of capsules had the closest profile ever. Usually I try one flavour per day and I could tell the difference immediately. But for this pair, the difference was not apparent. I set aside a day whereby I could taste both capsules side by side before noting the profiles.

Laos Bolaven Plateau was smoother and milder than the Kenya cousin. The Kenya Peaberry had a deeper roast taste.
